The Save Elthorne Committee diverted its energies into ensuring the students to be transferred to other schools got the best possible places, and also that the Borough guaranteed jobs for the staff (which they did).

The school continued to be successful right to the end, and went out with a bang in 1986, with a huge firework display and party on 28th June.

By 1995 parents were demanding a new school in the borough, and the Elthorne site was eventually re-opened....

18th October. Council rejects Education Ctte recommendation, decided only by one vote.
20th October Sir Keith Joseph ratfies Council decision, Elthorne HIgh condemned to close
21st October Council workmen arrive to put up school name sign outside the school...!
