Two days later the school received the news it dreaded. Elthorne's closure had been approved by the Government, and it would close its doors finally in July 1986.

The next day, as school broke up for half-term, council workmen arrived to erect a name sign for the newly completed school...something it had never had before.

September 1983 Ealing Education Ctte reverses decision, and recommends council keeps Elthorne High
18th October. Council rejects Education Ctte recommendation, decided only by one vote.
20th October Sir Keith Joseph ratfies Council decision, Elthorne HIgh condemned to close
21st October Council workmen arrive to put up school name sign outside the school...!
