Several Conservative Councillors were missing from the September Education Committee meeting (which, of course, was being lobbied by the Save Elthorne campaigners). Labour's Hilary Benn proposed a motion to overturn the previous closure decision, and this was passed by the Committee.

So spirits were high on 18th October outside the Town Hall as the full council met. Elthorne's new intake students joined the lobby for the first time.
